We thought of keeping the Question & Answer format intentionally; so that it is more pleasant & direct.

Q. Who discovered Bach Flower Remedies?

A. Bach Flower Remedies were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach who was a consultant pathologist, bacteriologist & homeopath.

Q. What is Bach Flower Therapy & where do the Bach Flower Remedies come from?

A. Bach flower Therapy is a complementary treatment method that is used for emotional problems. Each of the 38 remedies discovered by Dr Bach is directed at a particular characteristic or emotional state. They’re made out of watered-down extracts from the flowers. Bach Flower remedies are gentle yet powerful remedies that act on surface level of consciousness (awareness). Your thinking and feeling are pointers to your remedies.

Q. Are Bach Flower Remedies used to treat physical problems or diseases directly?

A. Bach Flower Remedies don’t treat physical complaints directly. Instead they help by treating the negative emotional states that may provoke or worsen illnesses. Dr. Bach strongly believed that physical ill health was a result of disequilibrium within our minds and that it was therefore of utmost importance to treat the mind in order to bring about healing of the sick body.

Q. How is the selection of Bach Flower Remedies made for each person?

A. To select the remedies you need, think about the sort of person you are and the way you are feeling. It is emphasised throughout the Bach Remedy literature that the treatment is based on personality and so whatsoever the problem might be, the remedies should be selected according to the emotional outlook, the mood, temperament & personality of the concerned individual.

Q. How is Bach Flower Therapy different from other therapies?

A. Treatment with Bach Remedies involves a rather different approach to that of any other therapy. Medicine, generally treats symptoms and diseases and even truly holistic medicine such as homeopathy, takes into account the physical aspects as well. The Bach Remedies, however, concentrate entirely on the personality and emotions & sometimes people find it difficult to reconcile this approach with the malady. Dr. Bach himself explained this in “The twelve Healers & Other Remedies”.

The mind being the most delicate and sensitive part of the body shows the onset and the course of disease much more definitely than the body, so that the outlook of mind is chosen as the guide as to which remedy or remedies are necessary.”

Q. Dr. Bach discovered the Bach remedies in 1930’s; so how the remedies are useful (not obsolete) in today’s time with newer challenges of modern society & newer diseases that have come up?

A.  Although modern society challenges our lives with the pressures of its demanding pace, ever challenging environment and “modern” diseases it should be well understood that the human emotions  does not change and though we may have to face different problems now to those in days of Dr. Bach’s, our emotional outlook which is the focal point in Bach system of treatment remains constant, whatever the era might be. Thus the fear of cancer or AIDS is no different from the fear of small pox or tuberculosis prevalent in Dr. Bach’s time. In Bach therapy it is the fear which needs remedies and not the diseases; so era is not important but emotion is & we know that human emotions were, are & will remain same although diseases & challenges of life would change.

Q. Can Bach Flower Remedies be taken when I am on other system of medicine or with any other alternative / complimentary modalities of treatment?

A. Bach Flower remedies can be taken with any form of treatment or alternative / complimentary modalities. They do not interfere with any system or modalities of treatment.

Q. How long does it take for Bach Flower remedies to show some improvement?

A. Since every person is a unique entity and may have their own unique situations this question would not have a single definite answer. Generally, passing moods and emotions which have developed all of a sudden or recently will not take long time to correct. But for problems which have become deep rooted and firmly established evolving over a period of several months, years or decades, healing will be a much more gradual process and will naturally take more time.

Q. I do not have medical background; can I enrol for Bach Flower Therapy course?

A. People from medical background may have an added advantage of learning and applying Bach Flower Remedies. Dr. Bach intended his system to be simple so that anyone who desires to learn and apply it can do that easily. I know many students not necessarily from medical background to have become admirable Bach Practitioner.

Q. Are Bach Remedies useful for pets too?

A. Bach remedies can help your pets in exactly the same way they help you and the rest of your family. Selection of Bach Remedies for pets too should always be based on their emotional states.  If any medical conditions or injuries call for a diagnosis & further treatment of your pets; it is always prudent to consult a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DMV) while your pets are on Bach Flower Remedies.
